Tom Sheffer, legal assistant at the firm, was born and reared in Henderson, Kentucky, in the western part of the state, and educated in the county schools there. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Harvard University, concentrating in international relations and languages, and then a master’s at Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management (in Arizona and Switzerland). An avid traveler with a passion for animals and sports, he studied in Spain, traveled widely in Europe, South America and Africa, and speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
As a longtime restaurateur in Nashville and Birmingham, Tom oversaw several restaurants in both cities – assembling service teams and working closely with managers and chefs, creating menus, and welcoming guests while seeing to the daily tasks of the hospitality business. Previously a reporter and political speechwriter, he worked in law firms both in high school and after college and so has kept attuned to the field.
Tom and his wife, Allison, lived in Alabama and Tennessee before moving recently to Kentucky with their family of four children (ages 6 to 16), two dogs and two cats.
